Rodent Surgery Guidelines

The Department of Laboratory Animal Medicine at the request of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee has developed the rodent surgery guidelines. The guidelines are designed to safeguard the rodent surgical subjects and keep UNTHSC in compliance with the various regulatory agencies. All individuals on an animal research protocol should be familiar with procedures outlined in the protocol. In addition, it is required that a Surgery/Post-operative Report be completed each time a surgical prodedure is performed whereby the animal is anesthetized and allowed to recover.
