Program Advisory Committee

The Program Advisory Committee consists of scientists with national scientific reputations in minority health and health disparity research. Each of our Advisory Committee members have previously interacted with members of the Texas Center for Health Disparities. The members of the Program Advisory Committee and their institutions are listed below. This committee will meet with the Program executive committee twice a year. The Program Advisory Committee will oversee the mission and goals of the Center; review and guide Center activities related to research, community outreach and training programs; provide feedback; and participate in concept development and strategic planning for the Center.

Dr. Xóchitl Castañeda is the Project Director of the California-Mexico Health Initiative, a partnership created in 2001 by Mexican President Vicente Fox and the University of California. In her role as Project Director, Dr. Castañeda is involved in cross-border studies to assess how widespread diseases such as HIV/AIDS and TB are among migrant workers, with the long-term goal to enhance prevention and treatment.

Dr. Vijaya Hogan, Dr. PH. is the Director of Curriculum on Health Disparities and Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Maternal Health and Child Health at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. She is well known for her work on maternal and child health and disparities in preterm delivery among minority populations.


Dionne Bagsby

Tarrant County Commissioner (Retired),

Ms. Dionne Bagsby served as a Tarrant County commissioner from 1988 until Dec. 31, 2004. Ms. Bagsby was the first African American and woman to sit on the Tarrant County Commissioners Court. She provided leadership for African-Americans and set positive examples for community service activities. During her tenure, Tarrant County did business with a more diverse group of businesses -- and had an increasingly diverse work force. Her expertise will be valuable for the TCHD.
