The University of North Texas Health Science Center earned recognition from the U.S.
News and World Report
as
one of America's "Top 20" master's and doctoral degree
programs
in community health for 2000 and 2001 -
out of
a field of 300. UNTHSC School
of Public
Health's program is an integral part of this esteemed honor.
* Founded just two and a half years ago, we have 180 current students and 129 graduates.
Enrollment is expected to triple by 2005 - we've seen a 50% increase in just two years.
* The National Institutes of Health recently designated us as one of only six Cardiovascular
Intervention Centers in
America as part of the federal government's Healthy People 2010
initiative to build a healthier nation and end ethnic
and racial disparities in the burden of
disease. We are the only urban center and the only center in the 17 central and
western
states
that has a culturally diverse School of Public Health . About one-third of our
students
and faculty are underrepresented minorities. One-third of the faculty is bilingual.
These men and women
have a
unique understanding of, and commitment to, those who need public health
services the most - the
African-
American and Hispanic communities of America, especially in Texas.
* We are the international headquarters for the North American Regional Office of the International Union for Health
Promotion and Education.
* We are the national headquarters for the National Latino Health Research Collaborative (National Federation
of Hispanic Health Researchers).
* We are the only School of Public Health in Texas (there are three) that meets the advanced training needs of
working professionals by offering classes at night - an asset that attracts already-successful individuals in
health care, law, science and social work who want to significantly increase their market value and positive
community impact by earning a higher specialty degree.
* Our practice-based curriculum is unique and beneficial to the Fort Worth community. As part of their degree
plan, all students are required to work or conduct research in a local public health department, program or agency.
