The UNT System has recognized for many years the need for a pharmacy college in North Texas, and there continues to be a need for new pharmacists in Texas. The 82nd Texas Legislature authorized the establishment of the UNT System College of Pharmacy. The UNT System is developing an innovative pharmacy curriculum that will lead to a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree. This four year degree program will be offered at the University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth, Texas.
Program Overview
• Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree awarded
• First pharmacy school based in the Fort Worth-Dallas Metroplex
• Opening class size – 80 students; 100 students thereafter
• 3 years of didactic courses and introductory pharmacy practice experiences
• One year of advanced pharmacy practice experience
Myron Jacobson founding dean of UNT System College of Pharmacy
Jacobson, most recently a professor of Medicinal Chemistry in the College of Pharmacy at the University of Arizona, Tucson, and a member of the Arizona Cancer Center, received a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from the University of Wisconsin, Platteville; a PhD in biochemistry from Kansas State University; and completed postdoctoral research at the University of Utah and at the Mayo Clinic before joining the University of North Texas (formerly North Texas State University) in 1974.
