Biomedical science grads offer career advice
On April 13, an expert panel of GSBS alumni and friends returned
to campus to help current students learn how to break into,
and succeed in, their burgeoning careers.
The annual Alumni Career Panel and Dinner is presented in
conjunction with the GSBS Industry Practices Course, and is
sponsored by the GSBS Alumni Association.
Serving on the 2004 panel of experts were: Annita Verstappen
Bens, PhD, GSBS 1993, president of the GSBS Alumni Association
and UNTHSC faculty member, who spoke on behalf of the school’s
clinical research degree program; Nazreen Jacobson, PhD, GSBS
2003, who spoke about opportunities in basic research; Jami
Kern, PhD, GSBS 2002, who related her experiences in the clinical
research industry; Jenn Kersey, MS, GSBS 2001, who described
her experience in managing clinical studies; Marcia Ong, MS,
GSBS 2001, a specialist in drug safety monitoring; Ray Page,
DO, PhD, GSBS 1993, a physician-scientist with Texas Cancer
Care of Fort Worth who also founded the Cancer Education and
Research Foundation of Texas; Rusty Reeves, PhD, GSBS 1997,
who is on the UNTHSC anatomy and pathology faculty; and Stephanie
Willis, a professional placement services consultant.
