APHA launches new solutions database
Did you know that Texas has the highest percentage of uninsured
residents in the nation? Or that it ranks 35 th in the U.S.
for overall population health?
To help celebrate National Public Health Week April 5-11,
the American Public Health Association launched a new online
database called "Spotlight on Solutions", which highlights
organizations' efforts to end health disparities in their communities.
Here you can find out about the best practices that work in
your local area, as well as examples of innovative solutions
being used around the nation. To search the database, go to
APHA's website at www.apha.org.
To recognize National Public Health Week 2004, the campus Public
Health Student Association hosted an essay and
poster contest for sixth graders at JP Elder Middle School
to help promote knowledge about age and racial health disparities.
PHSA, which is currently led by President Kimberly McGee,
surprised the winners of the contest April 7 with gift certificates.
