SPH Faculty Updates
Kathryn M. Cardarelli, M.P.H. ,Ph.D,
will be the first SPH graduate to join our faculty in the Department
of Epidemiology. She will begin her position as an assistant
professor of epidemiology on Monday, July 19, 2004 . Dr. Cardarelli
currently serves as president of the SPH Alumni Association.

Fernando Trevino , Ph.D. , M.P.H. ,
dean of the School of Public Health , will serve on the Board
of Scientific Counselors of the National Center for Health
Statistics at the Centers of Disease Control. The board provides
advice about the goals, strategies and priorities of the NCHS,
guides statistical and epidemiological research and activities,
and recommends opportunities to employ new approaches to monitor
and evaluate key public health, health welfare and welfare
policy changes. As a current member of the Health Disparities
Task Force in Texas, Dr. Trevino also helped kick off National
Public Health Week festivities April 5 by speaking about eliminating
health disparities at the Texas Department of Health, Public
Health Region 2/3 in Arlington, Texas.
