TCOM Faculty Updates
Dr.
Steve Buchanan '82, associate professor of obstetrics/gynecology, received the 2004 American College of Osteopathic Obstetricians and Gynecologists Distinguished Service Award in March. Dr. Buchanan received this award because he repeatedly and unselfishly gives time and effort on behalf of the College and participates in the development of students, interns and residents in the specialty of obstetrics and gynecology and its related fields. He is also active in the community and faithfully contributes to the continuing education of his peers.
Dr.
Albert Yurvarti '86, professor of surgery at HSC, was presented with the Distinguished Service Award by the American Heart Association's Fort Worth division at its annual awards banquet in June 2003. The Distinguished Service Award is the highest honor an AHA division can give to a volunteer. Dr. Yurvarti was recognized for his dedication to advancing the mission of the AHA and going far and above his responsibilities as a volunteer.
Two professors fill key roles in the John Peter Smith
Health Network
Bernard Rubin, D.O., M.P.H.,
chief of rheumatology and professor of internal medicine, was
named to the board of managers for the JPS Health Network, which
includes John Peter Smith Hospital and more than 20 satellite
health centers. Board members are appointed by Tarrant County
Commissioners to provide oversight for network operations.
Samuel "Tim" Coleridge, D.O.,
professor of family medicine, has been named director of medical
education at JPS as part of a new graduate medical education
relationship with JPS Health Network. He will oversee the medical
quality of all JPS medical education programs, which include
residency programs in family medicine, obstetrics and gynecology,
orthopedic surgery, psychiatry and podiatry, as well as the transitional-year
internship. Dr. Coleridge will also direct JPS' residency rotations
in oral-maxillofacial surgery, otolaryngology and ophthalmology
through the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center and
a surgery residency rotation through Baylor University Medical
Center in Dallas.
