Scholarships

UNTHSC and the Financial Aid Office do not endorse, and are not affiliated with any of the scholarships or companies listed below. This information is provided as a courtesy to UNTHSC students.

The National Health Service Corps (NHSC) Scholarship Program 2012

The NHSC Scholarship Program application is now open.  This program is a competitive federal program that awards scholarships to students pursuing primary care health professions training.  In return, scholars commit to providing primary care health services in underserved communities.  The NHSC program pays for tuition and education-related expenses, and also provides a monthly stipend for living expenses in exchange for a minimum of two years of full-time service at an NHSC-approved site in a health professional shortage area (HPSA) of greatest need.  Please view their website for further information and online application.  Deadline: May 8, 2012 (5pm est)

Valley Chapter Medical Student Scholarship

The Texas Academy of Family Physicians (TAFP) is currently taking applications for the Valley Chapter Medical Student Scholarship.  Applicants must be 3rd or 4th year TCOM students in good standing, have a connection to the Lower Rio Grande Valley (previous or current resident), and have a strong interest in family medicine (or has already chosen family medicine).  Deadline: May 9, 2012

South Texas Chapter Medical Student Scholarship

The Texas Academy of Family Physicians (TAFP) is currently taking applications for the South Texas Chapter Medical Student Scholarship.  Applicants must be 3rd or 4th year TCOM students in good standing, have a strong interest in family medicine (or has alread chosen family medicine), and also has a strong interest in practicing in a rural area.  Preference will be given to a student with a connection to the South Texas Chapter area (Calhoun, Jackson, Victoria, Lavaca, Goliad, Gonzales, or DeWitt counties).  Deadline: May 9, 2012

Arnold N. Krause, M.D. Medical Student Scholarship

The Texas Academy of Family Physicians (TAFP) is currently taking applications for the Arnold Krause, M.D. Medical Student Scholarship.  Applicants must be 4th year TCOM students in 2012-2013 in good standing, has a strong interest in family practice (or has already chosen family medicine), and has a connection to Tarrant County (previous or current resident).  Deadline: May 9, 2012

 Glen Johnson, MD Minority Medical Student Scholarship

The Texas Academy of Family Physicians (TAFP) is currently taking applications for the Glen Johnson, MD Minority Medical Student Scholarship.  Applicants must be a 3rd or 4th year TCOM student for 2012-2013 in good standing, is an underrepresented racial/ethnic minority, and must have a strong interest in family medicine (or has already chosen family medicine). Deadline: May 9, 2012

Welch Scholars Grant

The Welch Scholars Grant provides monetary support to students that have outstanding academic achievement, participation in extracurricular activities, strong commitment toward osteopathic medicine and financial need.  Application open to TCOM 2nd, 3rd and 4th years for Fall 2012/Spring 2013 (current 1st, 2nd and 3rd yrs), who are in good acadmic standing at UNTHSC.  Each applicant's character, personal merit and background are considered in the selection process.  Former grant recipients are not eligible to reapply for the same award for a period of three years.  Please view application for further information regarding application and required documentation.  Deadline: May 04, 2012 5pm (submit to the UNTHSC Financial Aid Office)

Tylenol Future Care Scholarship

Tylenol's Future Care Scholarship application is now open to all students pursuing a career in healthcare. Applicants must be a resident of the 50 United States, Puerto Rico or the District of Columbia.  Must have completed at least one year of study by the Spring of 2012, have one or more years of school remaining, and be able to provide proof of enrollment in a public health/health education, med school, nursing and/or pharmacy degree program.  Ten chosen applicants will receive up to $10,000, 30 chosen applicants will receive $5,000. Please view their website for further information and application details and requirements.   Deadline: May 31, 2012.

   College Prowler "No Essay" College Scholarship

This external scholarship opportunity is open to all current students or those planning to enroll within 12 months; applicants must be legal residents of the US or International students with valid Visas.  Only one entry allowed per month (a new winner is chosen every month).  One prize of $2,000 will be awarded each month to a randomly selected entrant (winners will be notified via email).   UNTHSC and the Financial Aid Office do not endorse, and are not affiliated with this scholarship or company. Western New York Osteopathic Medical Society Scholarship

This society is providing two $500 scholarships to fourth year medical students who have either resided in Western New York for greater than four years or who have done clinical rotations in western New York.  Western New York being defined as the eight counties of Erie, Niagara, Genesee, Orleans, Wyoming, Allegheny, Chautaugua, and Cattaraugus.  Submission of a personal statement exemplifying your qualifications for this award is required, along with your paper  application (applications must be mailed). Deadline: July 7, 2012.

 AES Engineering Solutions

AES Engineering is offering a $500 scholarship for future leaders across a wide spectrum of fields of study.  This is open to all students.  Students must submit an essay of NO MORE than 1000 words in answer to the following question: What are your dreams for your future?  When you look back on your life in thirty years, what would it take for you to consider your life successful?  Submit essay to scholarships@aesengineers.com .  Be sure to include your full names, as well as the name of school you are attending and your plans for next year.  Please visit their website for further information.  Deadline: October 5, 2012
