Conficker Removal and Prevention Instructions
1. Run the McAfee SuperDAT Update to the latest McAfee.dat file and/or make sure that McAfee has the scan engine 5301.4018 and Dat 5761 October 3rd or better.
- If you do not have McAfee and you are a student, faculty, or staff member you may download it from the IR Helpdesk website.
2. Once updated, run a full McAfee scan, reboot, then run another full scan. If it still catches Conficker, run full scans until clean, rebooting in between. NOTE – You must run a full scan, not a quick scan.
3. To prevent re-infection, the machine must have Microsoft Windows security patch KB958644. More information and downloads can be found in the Microsoft Security Bulletin here.
