Roberto Cardarelli, D.O . is an Assistant Professor in the Dept of Family and Community Medicine and Director of the Division of Research. Dr. Cardarelli is a 2001 TCOM graduate and completed his residency and fellowship training at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston , TX . He has several publications and is currently the invited author for the Evidence-based medicine series for eMedicine.com. He is authoring 2 chapters for the new 3rd edition of Essentials of Family Practice textbook. His research areas include physicians disciplined by state medical boards, chronic disease management, evidence-based reviews, and health disparities in point-of-care practice. Kim Fulda, DrPH, is the Assistant Director of the Primary Care Research Institute/NorTex and an Assistant Professor for the Department of Family & Community Medicine. Prior to joining the Primary Care Research Institute and Department of Family and Community Medicine, Dr. Fulda was employed as a Research Project Manager in the Osteopathic Research Center and then Biostatistician in the Division of Epidemiology and Health Information at Tarrant County Public Health. While employed at Tarrant County Public Health, Dr. Fulda remained an adjunct professor for UNTHSC and served on student thesis committees. Her association with the University has played an integral part in various research modules.
Dr. Fulda earned her B.S. in Biomedical Science from Texas A & M University in 1998 before becoming a student at the University of North Texas Health Science Center’s School of Public Health. Through her studies at UNTHSC, she has earned a M.P.H. in Epidemiology in 2001 as well as a Dr.P.H. in Clinical Research in 2006. Lee Ann Cunningham is the Administrative Coordinator for the Primary Care Research Institute/NorTex's Division of Research where she provides administrative support for team members by drafting correspondence, typing and/or proof-reading research publications such as monographs, abstracts, journal articles, and book chapters as requested by divisional senior management. She keeps records on the scholarly activities of faculty, staff, residents, and students. Additionally, she assists in the design and development of presentations for divisional senior management using publishing software and its accountable for scholarly displays in the academic corridor as well as web site development for the PCRI/NorTex and the Department of Family & Community Medicine. Anna Espinoza, MD , is the Senior Research Coordinator for the institution working with residents and faculty to educate medical students, and residents, provide direct assistance to Division of Research faculty, assist in the coordination and implementation of research projects as well as conduct statistical analyses, manuscript preparation, research processes including but limited to literature reviews, grant writing, IRB applications, recruiting participants, and database management. Nicole Beltran is the Research Coordinator for the Primary Care Research Institute/NorTex Division of Research. She joined the team in February 2008. Her field of expertise will center around the upcoming cancer study being coordinated with the Moncrief Cancer Center. Kristen Hahn, MPH, is Research Coordinator for the PCRI/NorTex Division of Research. Her area of expertise focuses on the Needs Assessment Study (NAS) that is being coordinated with Pfizer. Mark Sanders, D.O., J.D.,MPH is the former Director of the Palliative Care Fellowship Program with Universal Health Services and a continued mentor to the program as well as instructor. He has a research background in Multiple Myeloma and Agent Orange Exposure, Glaucoma Induced Lactic Acidosis, and has experience in Clinical Trials. His research interests are in Geriatrics, Alzheimer's, Memory Disorders, Hospice and Palliative Care, Legal Medicine, and Family Medicine. Dr. Sanders knows the challenges facing faculty members as they pursue scholastic endeavors. He plays a critical role in establishing a research culture within the Family Medicine Resident Program and is effectively working with faculty and staff to increase scholastic activities including publications, presentations, and research studies. Christopher R. Mann D.O . is an Assistant Professor with the Department of Family and Community Medicine and Division Chief of Primary Care Sports Medicine. He is a 1986 TCOM graduate who trained at the Osteopathic Medical Center then completed a Fellowship in Sports Medicine/Rehabilitation at the Texas Institute of Sports, Rehabilitation, and Fitness. He has been the Team Physician for U.S. Diving at the Sydney Olympics 2000, as well as designated Team Physician at two Commonwealth Games and the All-Africa Games in Zimbabwe . His research interests are diverse including the current completion of Sports Medicine Physician's Survey in the evaluation of Testicular Cancer, and a large survey on the Incidence of Adult Attention Deficit, Hyperactivity Disorder in the Prison Population. Kathryn Cardarelli, Ph.D. is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Epidemiology in the School of Public Health and is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine in the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine at the UNT Health Science Center . She completed her Ph.D. in epidemiology from the University of Texas-Houston School of Public Health, with an emphasis in social epidemiology and health disparities research. Dr. Cardarelli also completed a two-year health policy fellowship with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, focusing on access to health care issues for vulnerable populations with both the Health Resources and Services Administration and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Her current research focuses on the influence of perceived racial discrimination on subclinical atherosclerosis and the relationship between sense of control, social support and a variety of health and health care outcomes. She was recently named the Dorothy Blair Health Fellow by the J. McDonald Williams Institute and is an author of the recently published Reinventing Public Health: Policies and Practices for a Healthy Nation , edited by LuAnn Aday. |

John C. Licciardone, DO has a Master's of Science in Preventive Medicine and a MBA from Texas Christian University . Dr. Licciardone dedicates 10% of his time to the Osteopathic Research Center as the Director of Scientific Communications and
is the Acting Associate Dean for Clinical Research in the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine. He conducts bi-monthly Research Enhancement Meetings with the pre-doc fellows, residents, and faculty to enable the developing clinician to understand research methodology from a practical viewpoint. He assists them in translating their scientific and clinical ideas and questions into testable hypotheses, selecting measurements, designing protocols, and implementing studies during their experience in the OMM department. John has recently published 15 articles in a range of topics testing the efficacy of OMT including quality of life, low back pain, and diabetes. His interests are varied and he brings a creative element to the Center. Since 1997 Dr. Licciardone has received over $3 million in research funding. Beginning this year Dr. Licciardone will be the PI on a study of OMT and Pregnancy, a two-year study funded at $250,000 by the Heritage Foundation. |

Susan F. Franks, Ph.D . is the Director of Clinical Studies for the Division of Research. She has a research background in Type 2 Diabetes, Obesity, Neurobehavioral Toxicology, Dementia, and Alternative Interventions. Her research interests are in Chronic Disease Management, Memory Disorders, Cultural Aspects of Health and Disease, and Biological Regulation of Appetite. Dr. Franks maintains an active research program, primarily through the development of disease-focused departmental databases. Faculty interested in pursuing research may elect to do so through her Faculty Research Program, which pairs graduate students with faculty members in the selected area of interest for project development and implementation. Eddilisa Martin, PharmD is a National Clinical Executive in the Clinical Evidence and Outcomes group of Abbott Laboratories. In this role she works with customers to make evidence-based decisions coverage decisions as well as to conduct studies and projects with customer specific data. Dr. Martin completed her bachelor of science in pharmacy from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences College of Pharmacy and her doctor of pharmacy from the University Of Oklahoma College Of Pharmacy. Throughout her experience she has also accrued experience in hospital and retail pharmacy, poison control, pharmacy benefit management, and managed care pharmacy. She works at Abbott Laboratory. |
