Chair and Professor

Welcome to the Department of Integrative Physiology of the University of North Texas Health Science Center!  We invite you to explore our site and learn more about the exciting research being done in the Department.  The Department is home to researchers with a wide variety of interests and approaches.  The Department is truly integrative as all faculty are engaged in interdisciplinary studies that span molecular, cellular, systems and behavioral sciences, with strong traditions of excellence in the study of cardiovascular, renal and neural-humoral control systems.  The research activities of many of our faculty and graduate students involve studies of normal physiology such as exercise and travel to altitude as well as pathophysiological states such as heart failure, hypertension, diabetes, obesity and sleep apnea.

Our commitment to excellence is demonstrated in our successful research and teaching programs.  Come and be a part of the excitement in the Department of Integrative Physiology of the University of North Texas Health Science Center!  We are at the forefront of translational research designed to integrate research at multiple levels, from the molecular to the cellular, to the organ, to the whole animal and finally to the human.

Faculty are also actively involved in curriculum development and the education of medical students, masters and doctoral level graduate students and health profession students.  Our faculty are consistently selected by students as recipients of outstanding teaching awards.

The UNTHSC is located in the cultural district of Fort Worth, directly across the street from the museum district which includes the world-renowned Kimbell Museum.  Fort Worth is a big city with a small town feel and is an easy city to live in with a low cost of living.  There are numerous parks and lakes and 26 miles of bike and walking paths along the Trinity River.

Thanks for visiting and if you have any further questions, feel free to contact us.  As Chair and Professor I invite you to browse the rest of this website.  Visit us again in the fall as we are in the process of adding video links so you can hear faculty and students describe their research.  If you have any questions about the Department of Integrative Physiology, please feel free to contact me at smifflin@hsc.unt.edu
