Internal Transfers

Internal Transfers between UNTHSC animal facilities will be considered on a case-by-case basis using the following guidelines:

  • An Internal Transfer Record must be completed and submitted to the facility manager before a transfer is initiated.  Each investigator must have an active approved IACUC protocol.
  • An Internal Transfer Record must be completed and submitted to the compliance officer before a transfer is initiated to move animals:
    • From room to room
    • From facility to facility
  • An Internal Transfer Record may be completed when transferring animals:
    • From one active IACUC approved protocol to another active IACUC approved protocol (e.g.:  from a breeding to a research protocol)
    • From one investigator with an active IACUC approved protocol to another investigator with an active IACUC approved protocol.
  • Documenting animal movements adds much more credibility to our sentinel animal program and helps reduce the incidence of disease spread.
