The UNT System has recognized for many years the need for a pharmacy college in North Texas, and there continues to be a need for new pharmacists in Texas. The 82nd Texas Legislature authorized the establishment of the UNT System (UNTS) College of Pharmacy. The UNT System is developing an innovative pharmacy curriculum that will lead to a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree. This four year degree program will be offered at the University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth.
We anticipate that the first class will begin in August of 2013.

Frequently Asked Questions
What are other requirements for admission? Applicants will also need to submit three (3) letters of recommendation from individuals who can assess their potential for the program. Applicants will be required to take the Pharmacy College Admission Test (PCAT).
How good must my grades be for acceptance into the program? Applicants will be assessed on a number of criteria and must have a minimum overall GPA of 2.5 in the required courses.
How many students will be admitted? We plan to enroll 80 students in the first class in Fall 2013, with class size expanding to 100 students in 2014, and to 100 in 2015, at which point we expect class size will stabilize.
Could you describe the curriculum? The specifics of the curriculum are in development. In general, however the PharmD curriculum will be a mix of classroom and laboratory instruction, as well as pharmacy practice experiences, in which students will work in local pharmacies, hospitals, etc. Because the program will be delivered at the UNT Health Science Center in Fort Worth, we are also designing the curriculum so that pharmacy students will have the opportunity to work with students training in other areas of health care, such as medical students, physician assistant students, and physical therapy students.
When can I apply? Following official accreditation notice for us to begin classes in Fall of 2013 we will begin accepting applications in Fall 2012, with an application deadline of February 15th, 2013. We plan to use the application service, PharmCas.
How long will it take to graduate? The PharmD program is a four (4) year program.
Will this be an accreditated program? We are working with the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) on our plan for accreditation. Our initial accreditation materials were submitted in January 2012. As with any new PharmD program, full accreditation will be granted when the first class graduates (Spring 2017). For additional information, please visit Accreditation Information.
Will courses for the PharmD program be offered at UNT Denton or UNT Dallas? Initially, all courses for this PharmD program will be delivered at UNTHSC in Fort Worth. Upon earning accreditation, we envision offering at least some portions of the program at UNT Denton and UNT Dallas. Since students will spend a significant portion of the PharmD program working at pharmacy practice sites, we anticipate that many of these training opportunities will be in Denton, Dallas, and other parts of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex.
