What To Do During Year One...

Begin to explore your unique personal values, interests and skills.

Attend special interest groups and specialty speaker presentations.

Start to think about which medical specialty you might pursue.
...During Year Two

Complete a variety of AAMC CiM online self-assessment exercises.

Attend special interest groups and specialty speaker presentations.

Begin gathering information about the specialties that interest you.

Narrow down your specialty interests to three or four top choices.
...During Year Three

Explore a variety of associations and specialty organizations.

Conduct informational interviews and/or participate in preceptorships.

Meet with one or more CiM specialty advisors to discuss your goals.

Research residency training programs through AOA Opportunities.
-
Research residency training programs through FREIDA.
...During Year Three into Year Four
-
Take USMLE Step Two (optional).
-
Register with ERAS and begin preparing your residency application.
-
Register for the AOA National Match and/or NRMP (as appropriate).
-
Register for the Early Match (if applicable).
-
Complete applications for residency programs.
-
MSPE (military) results are released on November 1st.
-
Interview with residency programs.
- Early Match deadline is early to mid-January.
- Submit your rank order list - Nat Match and/or NRMP (as appropriate).
- AOA match results are available the second Monday in February.
- NRMP match results are available the third Monday in March.
