At the HT-Technology Development Studio (TDS) of the MPI-CBG in Dresden we
are developing phenotypic assays and implementing high-content screens in
cultured cells and model organisms with the aid of robotic systems and automated
microscopy to discover novel gene functions by RNA interference and small
molecule compounds in close collaboration with internal and external scientific
groups. The facility operates in partnership with Cellomics Inc., Evotec
Technologies GmbH, and Definiens AG to develop automated microscopy and software
for pattern recognition and image analysis. The TDS was established by Drs
Marino Zerial and Ivan Baines, and is headed up by Dr. Eberhard Krausz, tds.mpi-cbg.de/webtds/
Pelkmans et al., Nature 2005, 436:78-86).
We are currently seeking to fill at least one postdoctoral scientist position

You are a skilled cell biologist with
some years of experience in
fluorescent microscopy and cell-based assays.
A strong scientific background in cell biology is essential.
Some
experience in project management and supervision of technicians would be a plus.

ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team are required.
Our
working language is English.
Contracts are limited initially to 2 years.
Compensation follows the
applicable German tariff for employees in civil service according to
qualification, experience and job description.

Currently seeking a principle R&D scientist for our headquarters located in St. Louis, MO. We are searching for an established cell biologist/biochemist to lead a research program in development of high content and high throughput cell-based bioassays.
Principal duties and responsibilities for this position include: leading a group of scientists in development of high content cell-based assays for applications in drug target identification and validation; implementing/developing platforms using proprietary in-house technologies for in vivo detection and localization of protein targets; identifying new product ideas related to cell-based assays, drafting product development plans, and providing scientific advise to other scientists during the product development process. The successful candidate will serve as a lead person for interface with our R&D, QC, QA, Packaging, Shipping and Marketing groups to define product specifications, product configuration, assays, manufacturing procedures, etc.
Required Skills
This position requires a Ph. D. degree in areas of cell biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, or medical sciences with 5 - 10 years working experience, including 4+ years experience in an industrial environment, preferably in a biotechnology or pharmaceutical setting. Required skills include strong scientific background in cell biology and cell signaling; hands-on experience with in vivo characterization of protein targets, particularly those of clinical importance; in-depth knowledge and hands-on experience in technologies used for cell imaging and high content cell-based assay development; and demonstrated scientific problem solving ability and high level creativity. Excellent communication skills (written and oral) and proven leadership skill are essential. Experience in or familiarity with the commercialization process of bioscience products, i.e. from product conception to product on shelf, would be a plus.
