Summer Camps

Fourth Grade Science Sleuths Camp
(Fort Worth Museum of Science and History)

For one week in the summer, elementary students are introduced to a basic understanding of General Science through the use of Museum Hands-On Laboratory experiences and exhibits.


Sixth grade Cardiopulmonary Camp
(University of North Texas Health Science Center- Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences)

For one week in the summer, middle school students are acquainted with basic understanding of the Cardiopulmonary system and preventive measures for healthier hearts and lungs. Student will be provided laboratory instruction from instructors at the University of North Texas Health Science Center and will gain further experience through anatomy lab tours and virtual reality computer programs.


Ninth Grade Disease Detectives Workshop
(University of North Texas Health Science Center- School of Public Health and Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences)

For one week in the summer, high school students study empidemiological concepts of emerging and re-emerging diseases among the population. The connection between biomedical research and personal and public health will be conveyed through the use of multimedia and laboratory demonstrations and computer interactive case investigations.


Health Fairs

MKITS has sponsored health fairs at the elementary school to promote awareness of health issues relating to the North Side community.

Science Fairs

The Graduate Student Association of the UNTHSC Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences sponsors an annual Science Fair for middle and high school students from Fort Worth schools. The MKITS program (in conjunction with the SCORE program) supports this initiative and promotes science projects and experiments among the MKITS schools.

Fort Worth Museum of Science & History - Activities

The Fort Worth Museum of Science and History stands as one of the supporting community collaborators in the MKITS program. The museum offers a variety of activites for MKITS classes.

UNTHSC Guest Classroom Speakers

Students from the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine, Physician Assistant Program, Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences and School of Public Health volunteer to speak to and  to provide research experiences for MKITS classes creating more opportunity for exploration of the biomedical and public health sciences.
