MKITS Graduate Student Fellowships
The National Heart Lung Blood Institute (NHLBI) has awarded UNTHSC, in collaboration with the Fort Worth Independent School District (FWISD), funds to conduct the More Knowledge In The Sciences (MKITS) Project designed to train and support graduate students as resources for the district's elementary, middle and high school students and teachers. These graduate students (fellows) will be supported by the NHLBI sponsored K-12 Initiative.
The fellow's training includes the following:
- Enroll in BMSC 5300 (2SCH) "Tools for Teaching Science" during the summer
- Participate in MKITS one-week summer science camp (June or July)
- Spend 10 hours per week (August-May) as a resource for elementary, middle or high school science teachers in the FWISD, providing direct assistance in the classroom
- Spend 2-5 hours per week outside the classroom for preparation
