Chair of the Department of Environmental
and Occupational Health

 

POSITION The School of Public Health at the University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth invites applications for the senior faculty position of Chair of the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health.

QUALIFICATIONS The candidate must possess strong leadership ability and demonstrate theoretical and practical expertise in environmental and/or occupational health. In addition, the candidate must have a terminal degree in environmental or occupational health or a related area. Possession of current NIH or equivalent funding, and/or a proven record of excellence and success in obtaining NIH or similar nationally peer-reviewed funding is required. A proven record of excellence in management and administrative duties is desirable but not necessary. The chair must be able to provide leadership and mentoring for a high quality group of junior faculty in the department, and be a driving force in promoting and fostering the department s faculty participation in interdisciplinary research.

RESPONSIBILITIES The successful candidate will serve as chief academic officer for the department, and is responsible for administrative and managerial duties, recruitment, supervision and evaluation of faculty and staff, enhancement of faculty teaching, research and service, and evaluation of program performance in implementing the institutional strategic plan. The chair is expected to assume a leadership role in teaching and advising students at the master s and doctoral levels, in developing a research program and in the participation of service activities.

COMPENSATION AND RANK Rank at Associate Professor or Professor and compensation are commensurate with qualifications and experience. Salary is very competitive.

DEPARTMENT AND UNIVERSITY The UNT Health Science Center is the fastest-growing health science center in Texas. The department consists of six full-time faculty members who conduct research in environmental and occupational health and related areas, often collaborating with other departments in the School of Public Health, the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine, and local, state, national and international agencies. The department s academic program is complemented by that of the Graduate Program in Environmental Science at the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas with which the department historically has academic and research ties; the successful candidate will be expected to increase research collaboration between the two units.
