Geriatric Fellowship Program
The Fellowship

  • One-year curriculum includes didactic coursework and clinical experience in geriatric care.
  • Two-year curriculum includes didactic coursework, clinical experience, and research in geriatric care.
  • The unique interdisciplinary focus of medical, dental and psychologic geriatric care enriches the fellowship experience.
  • Teaching, administrative, clinical, and research resources are provided by experienced teams at the UNT Health Science Center, VA Medical System, and the University of North Texas.
  • Coursework, rotations in clinical geriatrics, teaching opportunities, and research time are integrated into monthly schedules for all fellows.
  • Required elective coursework is offered through the three participating institutions.
  • Tuition and fees are paid by the fellowship grant.
  • Clinical rotations sites include acute-care hospitals, VA nursing home care unit, hospital-based home care, geropsychiatric care at the VA Medical System at Dallas, and rehabilitative/restorative than care at Osteopathic Medical Center of Texas.


Year One

60 percent of the program is devoted to the clinical curriculum, 20 percent to the research curriculum, and 20 percent to the pedagogical/administrative curriculum.

Year Two

20 percent of program is devoted to the clinical curriculum, 20 percent to the pedagogical/administrative curriculum, and 60 percent to research.
