
John A. Harman, MBA, CPA, CGMA, CMPE is Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of UNT Health, the clinical enterprise of the University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth.
Harman is responsible for oversight of all fiscal operations of the faculty practice group with budget responsibility approaching $91 million annually. Harman provides leadership, direction and oversight of financial accounting and reporting, budgeting, financial analysis and forecasting, patient revenue cycle, metrics reporting, business systems, contract operations, business development and external reporting activities for the organization.
Harman serves on numerous senior leadership committees and works closely with the UNTHSC EVP for Clinical Affairs & Business Development / UNT Health President & CEO, the UNT Health Board of Directors, executive staff, administrative staff and physician leadership in driving the strategic direction of the organization. Harman provides expertise in business planning, cash-flow management, evaluating capital projects and business expansion, tracking key performance indicators, establishing performance targets and long-range strategic planning. Harman has an appointment as adjunct associate professor in the Department of Health Management and Policy in the UNTHSC School of Public Health.
Following a national search, Harman joined the Health Science Center administrative leadership team in December 2006. Before arriving in Fort Worth, he was executive vice president and chief operating officer at West Virginia University’s clinical enterprise at the Robert C. Byrd Health Sciences Center. Under his leadership, the faculty practice group experienced five years of significant operational and financial growth. Harman also spent five years as executive director for finance and administration with the Department of Family Medicine at James H. Quillen College of Medicine at East Tennessee State University.
Harman holds active CPA licenses in Tennessee and Texas and has achieved the Chartered Global Management Accountant designation (CGMA). He earned a bachelor's degree (BBA) in business administration with a major in accountancy and a master’s degree in business administration (MBA) from the AACSB accredited College of Business and Technology at East Tennessee State University. Harman was a member of Gamma Beta Phi and Beta Alpha Psi academic honor societies. John has earned certification as a medical practice executive (CMPE) from the American College of Medical Practice Executives.
