John A. Harman, MBA, CPA

John A. Harman, MBA, CPA, is associate vice president and chief financial officer of UNT Health, the physicians group of the University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth.
Harman is responsible for oversight of all fiscal operations of the physician faculty practice group with budget responsibility approaching $75 million annually. Harman provides leadership, direction and oversight of general accounting, budgeting, audit, tax, patient accounting, reimbursement, purchasing, professional services contracts, real estate, construction, and insurance and external reporting activities for the organization and its wholly owned subsidiaries.
Harman serves on numerous senior leadership committees and works closely with the UNT Health president & chief executive officer, the UNT Health Board of Directors, and the executive vice president of finance and administration for the Health Science Center in evaluating capital projects, business expansion, facilities and general strategic planning.
Following a national search, Harman joined the Health Science Center
administrative team in late 2006. Prior to arriving in Fort Worth, Harman was
executive vice president and chief operating officer at West Virginia University
s physician group at the Robert C. Byrd Health Sciences Center. Under his
leadership, the practice group experienced five years of significant operational
and financial growth. Harman also spent five years as executive director for
finance and administration with the Department of Family Medicine at James H.
Quillen College of Medicine at East Tennessee State University.
Harman
is a certified public accountant and earned a bachelor s degree in business
administration with a major in accountancy and a master s degree in business
administration with a concentration in accountancy from East Tennessee State
University in Johnson City, Tenn. Harman was a member of several academic honor
societies including Phi Beta Lambda and Beta Alpha Psi.
His professional memberships include: American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Tennessee Society of Certified Public Accountants, National Association of College and University Business Officers, American Medical Group Association and Medical Group Management Association. Harman is a candidate in the American College of Medical Practice Executives and is a member of the Association of American Medical Colleges group on business affairs.
