From the American Osteopathic Association:
The devastation from Hurricane Katrina has left hundreds
of thousands of people in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama without
shelter, water, food and clothing and in dire need of medical assistance.
In response to this tragedy, the AOA Executive Committee of the Board of
Trustees, under the leadership of AOA President Philip L. Shettle, DO,
announced on 9/8/05 the creation of the AOA Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund
that will provide grants to DOs and osteopathic medical students traveling
as medical volunteers to the disaster areas.
Grants will be awarded in the amount of $500 and will be available on a
first come, first serve basis. To be eligible for these grants, you must be
an AOA member and must be traveling with a recognized relief organization to
provide medical services. For information on the AOA Hurricane Katrina
relief efforts and how to apply for the grants, please visit
