In case you missed it: Distinguished Speaker Series debuts Feb. 22
The panel of experts for the Feb. 22 Distinguished Speaker presentation on “The Detection of Early Stage Ovarian Cancer” by David Fishman, MD, will include Ray Page, DO, PhD, TCOM/GSBS 1991, director of clinical research for The Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders, and three UNTHSC faculty members. Joining Dr. Page on the panel will be Alakananda Basu, PhD, professor of molecular biology and immunology; Lori Fischbach, PhD, MPH, assistant professor of epidemiology, School of Public Health; Salvatore LoCoco, MD, FACOG, assistant professor of obstetrics and gynecology; and Donna Rankin, regional director of health initiatives, Fort Worth Metro Market, American Cancer Society.
Registration for the free event will begin at 4:30 pm, with welcome and introductions at 5 pm. Dr. Fishman’s presentation will begin at 5:15 pm. A reception in the Atrium will follow the panel discussion.
Dr. Fishman is director of gynecologic oncology and the Cancer Detection and Screening Program at the New York University School of Medicine and Cancer Institute. He received his medical training at Texas Tech School of Medicine and completed his internship and residency in Ob/Gyn at Yale University. He also completed a clinical fellowship at Yale in gynecologic oncology.
The Distinguished Speaker Series is an ongoing series of presentations at the Health Science Center by internationally renowned scientists for intellectual and educational exchange with UNTHSC faculty and the North Texas community.
Upcoming Distinguished Speakers will focus on aging and Alzheimer’s disease; women’s health issues; physical and osteopathic manipulative medicine; and health equities.Attendees of this program will receive 1.5 hours in Category 2A CME credit hours from AOA; 1.5 credit hours in Category 1 from PRA/AMA; or 1.5 Type 1 contact hours for nursing accreditation. Those wishing credit for attendance must complete the attendance record/credit request form and the evaluation form at the end of the program.
