FORE! a good cause. The annual event is personally organized by Dr. Meharvan “Sonny” Singh, associate professor of pharmacology and neuroscience, and his wife, Preeti. Dr. Singh says the event began as a way for colleagues to have a little fun outside work. Now the tournament has dozens of players, sponsors and a great cause. For the past two years the tournament’s proceeds have benefited the scholarship that was established in honor of Rachel Dauphin, a pharmacology and neuroscience student who died of cancer in 2005. Each year the scholarship is awarded to a student is the Graduate School of Biomedical Science who shows enthusiasm, volunteerism and academic ability. This year the tournament got a tremendous boost from Rachel Dauphin’s family. Her mother, Lillian, and her aunt and uncle, Marilyn and Rick Boswell, printed signs for the event and organized an auction and raffle. They also put together goody bags for each of the players that included a special golf towel embroidered with “The Rachel Dauphin Scholarship.” Winners of the 2007 tournament were Lisa Smith, outreach librarian; Dan Burgard, senior director of public services at the library; Tara Dubose and Dr. Thomas Fairchild, vice president of strategy and measurement. The foursome took home the coveted “Green Sock” – a play on the PGA Masters Tournament’s Green Jacket. Sonny Singh Open sponsors
