… hosted their 15th annual pool party to welcome new TCOM students and their families. The event, which is funded by District 2 of the Texas Osteopathic Medical Association and the TCOM Alumni Association, includes plenty of barbecue and beverages for all. Another TCOM alum, Dr. Jim Czewski, TCOM Class of 1977, and his wife, BJ, started the tradition two years before the Bakers assumed hosting duties at their home in west Fort Worth.

… and pitcher for Major League Baseball’s Washington Nationals, made history Aug. 7 by throwing the pitch for Barry Bonds’ record-breaking 756th homerun. “I dreamed about it as a kid, but when I dreamed about it, I was the one hitting the home run and not giving it up,” Bacsik told the Associated Press. “I didn’t really want to be part of history as a bad part, but I am,” he said. “I’m OK with it.” Dr. Bacsik recently completed her residency in pediatrics at UT Southwestern Medical Center.

… was recently a visiting professor at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, Scotland. Dr.Yurvati, who notes that he was the first DO to lecture at the 215-year-old university, presented a seminar on “Innovations in Cardiac Surgery.”
The Institutional Advancement/ITS Online Giving Team
… of Tony Rousseau, Dona Smith, Juana Castillo and Cleatus Wallis successfully launched the Health Science Center’s long-awaited secure online giving process that allows donors to make their gifts electronically using all major credit cards. It’s posted at the Health Science Center’s Make A Gift/Make a Difference Web site.

… put on another memorable Ranchland party to welcome new students to the Health Science Center. This was the 13th annual event and 215 people attended. Photos from Ranchland will be available in a couple of weeks. They’ll be posted on the bulletin board outside the student lounge on the first floor of EAD.
