First Friday Update by President Scott Ransom The foundation of every great university is a great faculty To help us realize our vision of being a Top 10 Health Science Center, we’re aggressively recruiting experts in medicine and science from across the nation to increase the depth and breadth of our already stellar faculty. In the past fiscal year, 58 of the best and brightest innovators, scholars and healthcare professionals have agreed to join our academic team, and some 20 more are considering the opportunities we have offered them. Our new faculty members bring with them impressive histories of accomplishments at prestigious institutions such as UT Southwestern, UT Medical Branch at Galveston, UT Arlington, University of Alberta, University of Nebraska, UT Health Science Center at Houston, Texas Tech, University of Virginia and Texas A&M. Thirteen of these 58 recruits – 22 percent – are our own outstanding graduates. Now, that’s exciting! To help develop our Health Institutes of Texas, many of our new recruits are mid- to senior-career experts with established research teams and significant funding in our focus areas: aging and Alzheimer’s, women’s health, health disparities, osteopathic manipulative medicine and musculoskeletal medicine, and cancer. These world-class investigators will continue to blaze new paths in their own areas of expertise as they help mentor our students and younger faculty. This past fiscal year we also recruited many exceptional clinical educators and healthcare providers. These individuals will be role models for our students as they help us continue to provide excellent care for the families of Fort Worth and Tarrant County. We are already the largest multi-specialty physician group in the region, and the purposeful growth of our medical faculty will ensure that we achieve our vision of becoming the clinical care provider of choice in Tarrant County. Please join me in welcoming – and celebrating – our 58 new faculty members. (With more to come!)
