Blair Chappell, physician recruiting coordinator for UNT Health
… donated 11 inches of her hair to Locks of Love, a nonprofit organization that provides hairpieces to children with medical hair loss. Blair has been growing her hair for years… she said she hadn’t had a “major haircut” since 2000.

 

Dr. Thomas Dayberry, TCOM Class of ’97, assistant professor of family and community medicine
… was awarded the Clyde Gallehugh, DO, Memorial Award for 2007 at the faculty assembly last month. The award is given annually in recognition of outstanding participation as a clinical science faculty member in the teaching of basic sciences.

 

Dr. Marc Hahn, dean of TCOM
… was named to the Texas Health and Human Services Commission Frew Advisory Committee. The committee is made up of health professionals from across the state who will advise the Health and Human Services Commission on how to make it easier for children with Medicaid coverage to get medical and dental checkups.

 

Hank Lemke, MMS, PA-C, director of the Physician Assistant Studies Program
… was appointed as a commissioner on the Accreditation Review Commission for Physician Assistant Education. His term will start in 2008 and will last for three years.

 

Stephen Robertson

Stephen Robertson, director of contract operations and business development for UNT Health
… is the winner of the ITS Survey iPod drawing. Stephen is now the owner of his very own iPod Shuffle, and all he had to do was fill out a survey. Stephen says if he can keep the iPod away from his daughter long enough, he’ll download and enjoy his favorite mind-soothing, heavy-progressive instrumental jazz fusion music of Alan Holdsworth, Pat Metheny, Joe Satriani and Steve Vai.

 

 

Cherice Roth, student in the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences
… was selected to participate in the Minority Trainee Research Forum in Aventura, Florida, where she presented her research on prostate cancer. The forum was attended by students from across the country as well as representatives from Merck, the National Institutes of Health and Johnson and Johnson. Roth was selected based on the merit of her research and its potential significance in the field of prostate cancer.

 

Dr. Jim Walton, TCOM Class of 1982, and his wife, Dr. Rhonda Walton
… are recipients of the 2007 Hazel E. Brown Outstanding Community Partner Award from the Central Dallas Ministries. Dr. Jim Walton is the chief health equity officer for Baylor Health Care System in Dallas and a volunteer physician for Central Dallas Ministries’ Community Health Services and Project Access Dallas. Dr. Rhonda Walton is a pediatrician at Baylor Family Medical Center at Ellis County in Waxahachie.

 

The Physician Assistant Studies Program Accreditation Steering Committee
… prepared the materials and guided the re-accreditation process for the Physician Assistant Studies Program. The program earned the maximum seven-year term awarded by the Accreditation Review Commission for Education of the Physician Assistant.
