Stay Safe on Campus
We have an open campus in a great Cultural District location. While we want to remain warm and welcoming, your safety is our No. 1 priority. In light of recent tragic events at campuses across the nation, we want to make sure you are aware of our safety efforts.
To protect students’ and employees’ safety, HSC Police patrol the campus 24 hours a day every day and will stop groups or individuals who make threats or act violently. In fact, HSC Police already have issued criminal trespass warrants against three individuals this year.
To view reports and photos of trespassers who should not be on campus, go to the HSC Police Web site, click on “Criminal Trespass” under “Security on Campus.”
If you spot a trespasser on campus, call the HSC Police emergency number at ext. 2600, and let them handle the situation. Keep in mind ext. 2600 is the number to call in any sort of emergency situation you encounter while on campus, but please use it only in emergencies.
And remember, don’t allow anyone without proper identification to follow you into a building after hours, and don’t prop building doors open.
Our new HSC Alert system passed its test with flying colors recently and is now at the ready, should we ever need it. The HSC Alert system will send a text message to your cell phone and place an automatic call to phone numbers you specify to let you know as soon as possible that there is an impending threat on campus. Please remember to update your contact information in EIS to receive these alerts in the case of a widespread emergency on campus.
Our Human Resources office also has a Workplace Violence Policy in place. Please take a look at it, and if you ever feel someone has violated this policy, HR recommends you notify your supervisor, HSC Police, the Safety Office, HR, or a combination of any or all of these.
Below is a list of important phone numbers to keep on hand for safety emergencies. Please copy these on a note card and carry it with you, program them into your cell phone, or print this page and clip the list to place next to your office phone.
