EMR in use

EMR on track for PCC

UNT Health and the Patient Care Center clinics are continuing training and implementation of the new electronic medical record (EMR) system. By the end of May, clinics should be actively using the NextGen EMR system in most areas of the PCC, according to Dr. Robert Adams, chief medical officer for UNT Health. Many clinics, such as Family Practice, Surgery, Orthopaedics and Pediatrics, are already using the system. Internal Medicine is finishing its training and beginning implementation.

The NextGen system will allow for a single, easily accessible medical record for each patient, regardless of the number of UNT Health physicians they may see. It will also allow for immediate faxing of prescriptions to a designated pharmacy and for receiving lab results directly from certain laboratories.

Dr. Adams is overseeing the EMR project for UNT Health and Ruth Monaco, RN, is the Siemens consultant serving as project manager. Phase II implementation of the EMR project in FY 2009 will expand the medical records system to all UNT Health clinics. UNTHSC logo
