HSC Police move
HSC Police will have its own entrance to part of the parking garage for its patrol vehicles. The rest of the garage won’t open until Building A is complete. The Health Science Center’s Space Utilization Committee will decide how to best use the old HSC Police station on Darcy Street.
The UNT Health Science Center Police Department is now located at the corner of Montgomery and Mattison streets in the first floor of the former Osteopathic Medical Center of Texas parking garage. The new location puts the Police Department closer to most of the main buildings on campus, and provides more space for their operations and new equipment. HSC Police will continue to provide all of its services, including key distribution and parking services, and will maintain the same hours and phone number at the new location.
The additional space at the new location will get HSC Police a few steps closer to accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). These requirements include a more secure area for its dispatchers and space for a full-size back-up generator.
The Health Science Center’s new fully-equipped Emergency Command Post, which was previously set up in a conference room on the eighth floor of the Education and Administration Building, is located at the new station. And, a new upgraded dispatch center features new cameras and closed-circuit TV equipment.
In addition to its easy access to campus, Chief Gary Gailliard hopes the new location will increase police visibility on Montgomery Street and will help control traffic concerns such as drivers speeding through crosswalks.
