Tim Doke has been named Senior Vice President of Community Engagement at the UNT Health Science Center effective Oct. 1, announced President Scott Ransom. Doke will replace Greg Upp, who retires at the end of the year after serving in the position since 2001.
In this role, Doke will be responsible for public relations strategy development and implementation; institutional advancement; advertising, marketing, media relations, community relations; executive and corporate communications; digital communications; institutional brand management; alumni relations; and support of government relations strategy. He will serve as a key liaison with the business community, key foundations, life science organizations and community organizations.
Doke comes to the UNT Health Science Center from UT Southwestern, where he has served as Vice President -- Communications, Marketing and Public Affairs since 2008. In a career that spans 30 years, Doke spent 10 years as Vice President-Corporate Communications at American Airlines and held the same position at Dell, Inc., Alaska Airlines, Brinker International, and Freescale Semiconductor. He was with the public relations consulting firm of Hill & Knowlton for 10 years prior to moving to corporate work. In recognition of his work at American Airlines during and following the events of 9/11, Doke was named national "PR Professional of the Year" in 2002 by the Public Relations Society of America.

Doke earned his Bachelor of Arts in communications/political science from the University of Central Missouri and received a Rotary Foundation Graduate Fellowship to study international law at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland.
