Prokai-Tatrai Joins Health Science Center as Research Associate Professor
Katalin Prokai-Tatrai, PhD, recently joined the UNT Health Science Center as a research associate professor in the Department of Pharmacology and Neuroscience.
Dr. Prokai-Tatrai was formerly an associate scientist in the Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics at the University of Florida.
She earned a bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering, a master of science degree in chemistry and a doctorate in organic chemistry from the University of Veszprem in Hungary, graduating summa cum laude with all three degrees.
As a medicinal chemist, Dr. Prokai-Tatrai’s research interests include drug discovery on central nervous system agents using neuropeptides or peptidomimetics as lead compounds, the application of pro-drug approaches to improve brain-targeting of therapeutic agents, and understanding how phenolic antioxidants protect neurons against reactive oxygen species with a special emphasis on estrogens as protective agents.
A native of Hungary, Dr. Prokai-Tatrai currently resides in Mansfield with her husband, Laszlo, and 8-year-old son, Marcel. Her oldest son, David, is currently a college student at the University of Florida.
