Bay Area Internship & Residency Programs

Internship & Residency Programs

Our program has been in existence since 1939 and has continued to grow. Initially we had a traditional internship and then it was combined with a family practice residency in 1989. We are part of a 583 bed multi-campus hospital system located in Corpus Christi, Texas. We are an AOA-approved program and are affiliated with the Texas OPTI.

Our current Director of Graduate Medical Education is Steven L. Gates, D.O. He is a board certified internist as well as having a certificate of added qualifications in geriatrics. We have a very strong academic program that is headed up by our Director of Academic Medicine, Dr. Richard Romero. Our academic program has daily morning reports as well as daily lectures. We also have an enthusiastic group of teaching physicians.

We currently offer a traditional rotating internship, a family practice residency, and an internal medicine residency. Our family practice residency program director is Antonio Lykos, D.O. Our internal medicine residency program director is Steven L. Gates, D.O. Our residency teaching continuity of care clinic is located on our campus.

We offer multiple rotations for students and encourage them to rotate at our program and witness the excellence of our program.
