Information on Poster Presentation Judging for SPH

Each judge will receive six posters to review. Two judges will be assigned to each poster. Judges will interview their assigned presenters and complete a written assessment of each poster presentation (see poster evaluation/score sheet) to be given to each student competitor at the end of the day. After reconvening in the judges' quarters to discuss their top selections, all judges will then return to review the top three posters. Judges will reassemble in judges' quarters to discuss and determine the first and second place. There will be no ties.

Judges will address the following criteria when judging poster presentations:

  1. Background/Significance of Problem: Is the background sufficient to explain the problem? Is the significance of the problem and impact to public health practice clearly stated?
  2. Experimental Design: Are the objectives well stated? Do the experiments address stated objectives and are they well planned and executed?
  3. Results and Conclusions: Are the results significant, original, and statistically sound? Are conclusions appropriate to the results and design of the experiment? Does over or under generalization occur? Are there appropriate controls?
  4. Presentation: Does the poster describe the research activity in a logical and concise manner? Is the poster clear and easily interpreted? Does the presenter when answering questions concerning his/her research display knowledge and understanding of the project? Are the presenter's answers clear, concise, and direct?
