Biology of the Menopause and Hormone Therapy
Hormone therapy is a subject that has been greatly debated by health care professionals. Many studies have supported the potential benefit of menopausal and postmenopausal hormone therapy in reducing the risk of various age-associated conditions—including heart disease, osteoporosis, stroke and Alzheimer’s disease. However, recent results from the Women’s Health Initiative have suggested the contrary and left the field unsettled as to the future of hormone therapy.
To address this controversy, researchers within FOR HER are investigating several aspects of hormone biology to gain better insight into developing safer and more effective therapeutic options for women going through the menopausal and postmenopausal periods.
