The
performing arts can relieve stress, delivering a gift that lifts
the mind of its troubles. But artists who deliver that gift
through their talents suffer from occupational hazards few of
us stop to consider.
Now both
musical and medical resources have been brought together to
study, treat, and prevent these often career-threatening disorders
through the Texas Center for Music & Medicine, made up of
the University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort
Worth and the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas.
Performers
will receive care in a compassionate, knowledgeable environment
for musicians and performing and visual artists. The center
includes an education, research, and training facility within
the College of Music at UNT as well as a clinical services and
referral system within and beyond the UNT Health Science Center
in Fort Worth.
Our medical
team diagnoses and treats all types of injury and illness, emphasizing
preventive medicine. The Texas Center for Music & Medicine
is dedicated to meeting the distinctive health care needs of
artists- from dancers to vocalists to sculptors to instrumentalists.
The Texas
Center for Music & Medicine is funded in part by the UNT
Health Science Center at Fort Worth and the University of North
Texas/Denton.
