Mission
The mission of the Texas Center for Music &
Medicine is to explore all possible relationships between music
and medicine and to develop, apply and disseminate successful
strategies and therapies for dealing with medical, audiological
and mental health problems of musicians.
Goal
Take
primary leadership role in addressing the health needs of the
music community by developing partnerships that facilitate research
and service.
Maintain
a discipline-specific advisory board of practicing professionals
and promote additional continuing partnerships with local, regional,
national, and international institutions.
Establish
conceptual and analytic frameworks that accelerate research
to understand cause and effect relationships between music making,
musician training and the medical needs of musicians.
Develop
educational strategies, research and service programs that help
music students and professional musicians maintain and promote
health.
Establish
a teaching and research/service laboratory where faculty and
graduate students conduct basic and applied research.
Conduct
local, regional, national and international workshops, conferences
and symposia for music educators, musicians and performing arts
medicine specialists.
