…were featured on the cover of the November 2007 issue of the Journal of the American Osteopathic Association. The journal features articles on expanding research and research funding at colleges of osteopathic medicine. Several HSC faculty members contributed to the journal.

… were featured in the December 2007 issue of the American Osteopathic Association’s The DO magazine.  Their photos were included in a feature on the 2007 AOA Convention in San Diego.

Dr. Patricia Gwirtz, professor of integrative physiology
…. was named assistant dean of the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. Among other administrative duties, Dr. Gwirtz will coordinate specialized programs and assume graduate advising responsibilities.  She will continue her faculty appointment as professor in the Department of Integrative Physiology and her role as the Year-One Phase Director for TCOM.

Walk Accross Texas Winners

… logged 26,732 total miles during this year’s program.  Sixteen HSC teams participated in the Texas AgriLife Extension Service’s eight-week walking program. HSC team “Catch Us If You Can” won the HSC competition and even led Tarrant County with 3,787 miles.  “Catch Us If You Can” team members include Diane Wynn, Shawn Jeffries, Karan Singh, Sejong Bae, Jim Stimpson, Elizabeth Medders, Jason Bradshaw and Erin Carlson. All WAT participants were honored with a lunch at the Founders’ Activity Center on Dec. 13. Visit the FAC Web site for more on the HSC’s Walk Across Texas program.

Claudia Coggin, PhD, assistant professor and director of the Center for Public Health Practice
… was selected to participate in a crisis and emergency risk communication for pandemic flu workshop sponsored by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention and the Society of Public Health Education (SOPHE) in September.  Participants in the workshop make up the Emergency Public Health Education Network of Health Education Professionals. 

Coggin was also selected by the SOPHE as a trustee for 2008-09.

… showed their Christmas spirit by raising $570 for the family of a patient who was going through some hard times during the holidays. With the gift, the family was able to buy new coats for their daughters just in time for the cold weather.
