Safety on campus
In light of events that occurred yesterday at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Ill., we’d like to remind our campus community of procedures and resources available at the Health Science Center in case of an emergency.
Emergency Preparedness Plan - Our plan is reviewed and updated every year. The current version was updated last month. Click on the link above for the latest plan on the Safety Office Web site.
- Call ext. 2600 - In case of an emergency or to report suspicious activity or violence, call HSC Police at ext. 2600 from any campus phone, or 817-735-2600 from a cell phone. DO NOT CALL 9-1-1.
- HSC Alert – The new phone alert system was tested this week and is now fully functional. It will alert faculty, staff and students of emergencies on campus by telephone through voice and text messages. Please be sure to update your phone information in EIS to make sure you are alerted in the event of an emergency.
- HSC Police – HSC Police officers are extensively trained and will respond to emergency situations quickly and professionally. They are also in close contact with other law enforcement agencies that can offer additional support if needed.
- Emergency Communications - In case of an emergency, a campus-wide e-mail message may be sent; the fire alarm intercom system may be used; and patrol officers may use the public address system on their vehicles. A command center to handle campus communications, as well as the flow of information to the public, will be established.
Additional emergency guidelines and information are available on the HSC Police Web site.
