President outlines plans for growth
The Dallas Business Journal featured the Health Science Center’s projected growth for the next five years in its July 28 edition. In the article, Dr. Scott Ransom, UNTHSC president, projected that the Health Science Center may enroll as many as 2,040 students in five years and will add about one million square feet of building space in 10-15 years. Dr. Ransom attributed the growth to the Health Science Center’s commitment to fulfilling the rising need for health care professionals in Texas. The article also appeared on bizjournals.com and in the East Bay Business Times (San Franciso - Oakland area).
Physician education continues after medical school
Dr. Bruce Dubin, associate dean of Academic Affairs for TCOM, explained in a Fort Worth Business Press article that while medical school can prepare a physician for treating patients, the business side of a medical practice is often a “learn as you go” process for many physicians.
Dr. Jeff Hantes, assistant professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology, contributed to a Fort Worth Business Press article examining incontinence, its causes and possible treatments.
DNA Lab identifies remains in Austin and Oregon
The DNA lab was credited with identifying remains found at Lake Travis near Austin. Stories about the identification were on statesman.com, KVUE News Daybreak and kxan.com. The lab also identified remains found in Oregon, according to OregonLive.com.
Hispanic Wellness Fair announcements
Both Pegasus News and North Texas e-News published announcements about the Fort Worth Hispanic Wellness Fair and named the Health Science Center as both a participant and a gold sponsor of the event.
Remembering a colleague
The Star-Telegram published an article remembering the life and work of Dr. Wayne Williams, associate professor of Family and Community Medicine and medical director of the Correctional Medicine Division, shortly after his death on July 18.
