HarveyBrenner.jpg M. Harvey Brenner, PhD, was recently named professor and chairman of the Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences in the School of Public Health at UNT Health Science Center.

Dr. Brenner will also continue his appointments as a professor at Johns Hopkins University and Berlin University of Technology.

Dr. Brenner’s main areas of research are the interaction of health and economies. Over a 30-year career in researching the economy and public health, he has developed several econometric models that show the relationship between the health of an economy and the health of its people.

A native of New York City, Dr. Brenner earned his bachelor of arts degree in economics from City University of New York and a master of arts degree in sociology and a doctorate in sociology from Yale University.

Dr. Brenner has taught at Yale University and Harvard University in addition to Johns Hopkins University and Berlin University of Technology. He has served as a consultant for the United Nations Social Defense Research Institute, the World Health Organization, the Joint Economic Committee of the U.S. Congress and the European Union, among others.

Dr. Brenner currently resides in Fort Worth.
